Alta Bicycle Share (also known as Alta Bike Share) is a company based in Portland, Oregon, that operates bicycle sharing systems in the United States and Australia.[1] The systems provide a flexible method for completing short trips, as contrasted with the longer rentals offered by traditional bike rental companies.

In summer 2012, Alta will launch a system in New York City whose 600 stations and 10,000 bikes will make it the largest such program in the United States.[2]
Alta, which has branch offices in Melbourne and Washington, uses bikes, stations, and kiosks developed and manufactured by Montreal-based Bixi.
